Penfield College is located in the Stetson Building on Mercer University’s Macon campus. Faculty offices, Admissions office and classrooms are located here. The Stetson Building is also equipped with quiet study areas and a state-of-the-art MAC computer lab.
Penfield students primarily commute to the beautiful, historic Macon campus which offers a wide variety of services and amenities to students. Macon has served as Mercer’s home since 1871, when the institution moved from its original campus in Penfield, Georgia. The city of 90,000 serves as the educational, medical, cultural and commercial hub of Central Georgia. With the effective merger of Macon and Bibb county January 1, 2014, the population should be correctly stated as the combined City/County population of 154,721 (http://quickfacts.census.gov/qfd/states/13/13021.html).
The Jack Tarver library in Macon is part of the Mercer University Library Network that serves as a gateway of information resources through strong collections and innovative, technology-rich patron services to support the educational needs of our working adult students. Our libraries’ collections offer a wide variety of print, non-print and electronic resources, including web-based library catalogs and remotely accessible full-text resources.
Mercer is a full participant in GALILEO, the award-winning statewide library network of full-text resources, e-books and indexes that brings a full array of information resources to the desktop.
Information Technology Services
A robust and constantly expanding infrastructure gives students the technological tools they need to complete coursework and stay connected. On campus, students access the Mercer network through both wireless and wired Internet connections. Our computing labs provide students with specialized software.
The school’s Blackboard intranet site, Mercer’s web-based platform for instructional technology offers a wealth of resources helpful for classroom work and extracurricular activities.
Sports and Recreation
Students have access to the University Center, which offers state-of-the-art aquatics and fitness facilities. And provides students, faculty, and staff the opportunity to participate in a variety of interests.
The university maintains a health service for students on the Macon campus. The Student Health Center (SHC) provides medical and mental health services to all currently enrolled Mercer students. The SHC staff works as an integrated treatment team to provide quality care. Most services are free of charge, and any costs incurred can be paid at the time of service or billed to the student account. Appointments are encouraged, and walk-in visits will be accommodated when possible. Our hope is to provide an atmosphere that is welcoming and respectful of the dignity and worth of all students.
