The field experience is intended to provide counseling candidates with a broad-base practical experience in school settings. This experience is designed to have interns relate academic and theoretical learning to field experience in the five areas of developmental comprehensive school counseling:
- Teaming and Collaboration
- Counseling and Coordination
- Assessment and use of Data
Students’ efforts, professional interests, and continued openness to learning will largely determine the quality of their field experiences. The counseling faculty will assist students through this period of professional and personal growth. The field experience bridges the gap between the experiences and skills acquired in the classroom and the world of professional practice. Entering into a field experience placement signals that you have attained sufficient competencies in the practice of school counseling and are ready to function as a beginning professional under the supervision of faculty and site supervisors.
